Fort Collins Brewery to expand

FORT COLLINS — Fort Collins Brewery will soon be able to grow its beer-making capacity to 32,300 barrels annually, adding its name to the list of breweries in the city that are expanding production.

Right now, the brewery can produce 22,100 barrels per year.

The brewery plans to install a new 50-barrel automated brewhouse in August to replace its current 20-barrel system. The brewhouse will come to the brewery from Germany in July, along with a small contingent to help install it.

The price of the brewhouse was not disclosed.

Installing the system will likely take up the entire month of August, according to Charles Stanley, marketing director for Fort Collins Brewery.

The first batch of beer will be brewed in the system in September.

The brewery will sell its current system to make room for the new one. The building is large enough to house the new system, Stanley said, so no building will be necessary.

Fort Collins Brewery owners Tom and Jan Peters constructed the building in 2010, and opened a restaurant, called Gravity 1020 there as well.

The brewhouse isn’t the only expansion Fort Collins Brewery is making. The 10-year-old brewery hired its first marketing employee when it brought Stanley on board from Upland Brewing Co. in Indiana.

“We’ve seen steady growth over the last 10 years, but it’s been mostly through word-of-mouth and the efforts of our sales team on the ground,´ said Tom Peters. “Now that the beer is where we want it to be, we want to fly our flag higher and spread the word about what we’re doing here.”

Stanley will spend his first months consolidating current marketing efforts and building relationships, and once that is accomplished, he plans to develop new opportunities for beer-drinkers to interact with the brewery and the beer.
