Fort Collins advances in Georgetown University energy contest
FORT COLLINS – The city of Fort Collins is one of 52 cities to advance to the next round in a Georgetown University energy-saving contest with a $5 million purse.
Fort Collins is among the small- to mid-sized communities advancing to the quarterfinals of the competition. The cities had to assemble a team, outline an energy-saving plan and secure a signed commitment of collaboration from local governments, electric and natural-gas utilities and a community-based organization.
Brighton and Aspen also advanced to the next round. The communities will fine-tune their energy efficiency plans in the next few months before going head-to-head beginning Jan. 1, 2015 to lead the way in energy efficiency. The prize will be awarded in 2017.
