Fischer tapped as state House ag committee chair

Rep. Randy Fischer, D-Fort Collins, was appointed Wednesday as chairman of the House Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resources Committee.

The committee reviews proposed changes to Colorado’s mining industry and will be involved in the debate about counties and cities trying to exert more control of oil and gas development, according to a statement from Colorado House Democrats.

The committee also oversees changes to water law and other agricultural topics statewide and has legislative oversight responsibility for the departments of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

“I look forward to serving Colorado citizens as the chairman of such an important committee,” Fischer said. “Agricultural and natural resource issues influence the quality of life of every Coloradan in deep and meaningful ways.”

Fischer is beginning his fourth and final term in the state House. He has a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering and a bachelor’s degree in natural resources management from CSU. When he’s not busy in the legislature, he works as a consulting engineer specializing in the reclamation and remediation of abandoned mines worldwide.
