Fiberspar to build facility in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN – Fiberspar, which makes fiber-reinforced piping for the oil and gas industry, will build a sales and distribution center in Johnstown, McWhinney said Tuesday.

The Houston-based company will construct the new, 165,000-square-foot building at McWhinney’s Iron Horse development. The 165-acre mixed-use business park is located near the Interstate 25 and Highway 34 interchange and sits along the Great Western and Union Pacific railways.

“We are thrilled that after diligently reviewing a number of options, Fiberspar selected McWhinney and Iron Horse as they continue to expand their operations,” Dave Hagan, McWhinney senior vice president, said in a statement.

Fiberspar makes high-strength, corrosion-resistant pipes used for transportation and production of oil and gas. The company, founded in 1986, is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology spin-off. It installed more than 25 million feet of piping last decade.

“We’re extremely excited to expand our operations in Northern Colorado,” Peter Quigley, Fiberspar chief executive officer, said in the statement. “The location gives us and our clients a number of transportation options, and puts us close to important markets such as Denver, Fort Collins, Loveland and Boulder to draw for our employee base.”

McWhinney said the city of Johnstown, commercial real estate firm CBRE, construction loan provider Guaranty Bank, project architect WareMalcomb and general contractor Murray & Stafford were participating in the project.

A ground-breaking event is scheduled Wednesday at the project site.
