Feds cancel some Western Slope oil and gas leases

A pair of noted areas for outdoor recreation on Colorado’s Western Slope gained federal protection from oil and gas development on Thursday.

The Denver Business Journal reports that the U.S. Department of Interior issued final decisions canceling oil and gas leases atop the Roan Plateau near Rifle, as well as 25 inactive leases in the Thompson Divide area of the White River National Forest.
