Federal judge delays BLM’s new rules for fracking on public land

Colorado and a trio of other states scored a victory in court Tuesday when a federal judge in Wyoming granted a stay on new federal rules for hydraulic fracturing on public lands that were slated to go into effect today, the Denver Post reports.

Among other things, the new rules from the Bureau of Land Management would require oil companies to disclose the chemicals they inject into the ground during the fracking process.

The states of Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota and Utah had joined forces in suing the federal government over the rules, arguing that they infringed on states’ rights to regulate the oil and gas industry themselves.
