Famous Brands picks COO as interim CEO

BROOMFIELD – Famous Brands International, the parent company of Broomfield-based TCBY Yogurt and Mrs. Fields Cookies, appointed Neal Courtney, the company’s current chief operating officer, to the position of interim chief executive.

Courtney replaces Tim Casey, who resigned as CEO effective Tuesday, Feb. 5, to pursue new career opportunities. Casey will continue to provide support during a transitional period.

“Neal has been an integral part of Famous Brands’ growth and success for more than eight years, and we are confident that he is the right person to lead the company through this transition,´ said Bruce Pettet, chairman of Famous Brands International.

The company has initiated a search process for a permanent CEO, Pettet said. During his tenure in the past three years, Casey led the company through successful debt restructuring; launch of the TCBY self-serve platform; relocation and staffing of the corporate headquarters from Salt Lake City to Broomfield; and a strong finish to 2012 that resulted in the first positive franchise store growth expansion in more than 12 years.

“On behalf of the entire Famous Brands team, I want to thank Tim for his hard work and the significant contributions he made to the company during his time as CEO,” Pettet said in a press statement. “We are pleased that he will continue to provide support during this transition and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Courtney, who has been COO for Famous Brands International since May, has more than 15 years of leadership experience in retail, consumer packaged gods, e-commerce and franchising. He has been with Famous Brands for eight years and has held roles in finance, sales, and general management.

Famous Brands International is the tradename for Mrs. Fields Famous Brands LLC.
