Family-aid nonprofit hires ex-Naropa chief

BOULDER – The Emergency Family Assistance Association in Boulder has hired Stuart Lord, former president of Naropa University in Boulder, as its executive director.

Lord is replacing Terry Benjamin, who is retiring after serving as the Boulder-based nonprofit’s executive director for the past 33 years.

Lord’s first day on the job will be June 3. He is an academic and religious leader with 25 years of experience specializing in service learning, multicultural education and leadership.

Most recently, Lord was a senior fellow at the Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation in Princeton, New Jersey. The foundation supports anti-poverty programs in the areas of hunger and education.

He previously served as a dean and professor of service learning at DePauw University; associate provost and dean of the Tucker Foundation and vice president at Dartmouth College; executive director of President Clinton’s Summit for America’s Future; and also as Naropa University’s fifth president from July 2009 to October 2011.

“All of us at EFAA are thrilled to welcome Dr. Lord as our new executive director,´ said Nancy Sanders, EFAA’s board president. “Stuart not only has the professional credentials as a talented administrator, advocate and leader, he is committed to the mission of our organization and has a genuine passion for helping people in need.”

EFAA assists residents in Boulder and Broomfield counties with shelter, food or other basic necessities and supports clients’ efforts toward financial stability and self-sufficiency through long-term and short-term casework, education and advocacy. EFAA has been helping people since 1918.
