Encana official to chair Colorado Petroleum Association board

Lem Smith, director of U.S. government and regulatory affairs for Encana Oil & Gas USA Inc., was elected chairman of the board of the Colorado Petroleum Association for 2015.

Smith, who has worked with Encana since 2007, previously worked for Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Kerr-McGee Corp. after serving as an aide to members of Congress including then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss. Earlier this year, he participated in Gov. John Hickenlooper’s oil and gas task force as an alternate for member Peter Dea, president and chief executive of Cirque Resources LP.

The CPA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the oil and gas industry in the state.

“With so much focus on our industry right now, Lem provides valuable leadership to not just CPA but to the entire oil and gas industry in Colorado,” said Stan Dempsey, CPA president, in a media statement Monday. “Lem’s strong reputation, experience addressing various complex policy and political issues and his track record of building relationships among diverse stakeholders will be invaluable as the industry continues to grow in Colorado.”

Encana Oil & Gas USA Inc., a subsidiary of Calgary, Alberta-based Encana Corp. (NYSE: ECA) (TSX: ECA), drills oil and natural-gas wells in the Erie area.

Smith also serves on the boards of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Denver’s Preschool Program, Denver Area Boy Scouts Council and Judi’s House, a charity dedicated to assisting children and families grieving the death of a loved one.
