Drews named interim health-exchange chief

DENVER – Gary Drews, whose resume includes work with nonprofit organizations, higher education and the entertainment industry, on Friday was named interim chief executive of Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s health-insurance exchange.

The appointment, which takes effect Monday, Aug. 25, was made Friday morning by a unanimous vote of Connect for Health’s board of directors to replace former chief executive Patty Fontneau, who resigned to become president of private exchange business for group health insurer Cigna. Appointment of a permanent chief executive at Connect for Health is expected later this year.

Drews is chief executive of TheWorldWeWant Foundation LLC, based in Ventura, Calif., and spent seven years as chief financial officer at the Colorado Health Foundation. He previously was chief operating officer at Regis University in Denver and CFO for the Colorado Outward Bound School in Denver.  He also previously worked as a production executive at Walt Disney Studios and a freelance television producer.

Connect for Health Colorado is a public, nonprofit entity established as part of the Affordable Care Act for individuals, families and small employers to compare and buy health insurance and apply for tax credits.
