Deputy ag secretary to visit CSU

FORT COLLINS — Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Krysta Harden, the second highest-ranking official from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will visit Colorado State University on Tuesday to meet with school leaders and students.

Part of her visit will be spent engaging with students and learning about the educational and research programs within CSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences. She’ll also meet with CSU president Tony Frank and College of Agricultural Sciences dean Ajay Menon, and host a roundtable discussion with students that is focused on how the next generation of farmers will meet the needs of a growing population.

Founded in 1870 as Colorado Agricultural College, the school has long been a focal point for ag in the state, where the Colorado Department of Agriculture estimates that the industry contributes $41 billion to the state economy and employs 173,000 people.

Empowering communities

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), part of the UnitedHealthcare family, has pledged its commitment to uplift these communities through substantial investments in organizations addressing the distinct needs of our communities.

“I’m excited to visit with the students at Colorado State University and hear their perspective on the future of agriculture,” Harden said in a release from CSU. “As the average age of the American farmer continues to rise, it is more important that ever before that we give the next generation of farmers and ranchers the tools they need to succeed and lead our industry.”
