Denver metro million-dollar home sales spike in December

Luxury home sales in the Denver metro area spiked in December, nearly doubling from November and up more than 50 percent from the same month a year earlier.

That’s according to the latest report from Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, which bases figures on multiple listing service data for all homes sold for $1 million or more in the region.

Such home sales numbered 152 in December, including 21 in Boulder. The overall figure was up from 101 in December 2014 and from 77 in November 2015. The figure included 20 sales of more than $2 million.

“Demand was especially robust from buyers who wanted to close on their home before year-end,” Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage president Chris Mygatt said in a statement. “We’re hoping that momentum carries over into the new year.”

Only Denver, with 45, boasted more luxury sales than Boulder. Cherry Hills Village was third at nine and Golden had eight. Cherry Hills Village, however, had the highest-priced sale — $5.96 million for a six-bedroom, five-bathroom, 9,500-square-foot home.

Luxury homes sold in an average of 86.6 days on the market in December, down from 103 days a year earlier.
