Denver firms awarded contract to design UNC’s $73.6M Campus Commons

GREELEY — The University of Northern Colorado announced Friday that Denver-based architectural firms Semple Brown Design and Handprint Architecture have been awarded the contract to design Campus Commons, a signature building at the heart of campus in Greeley.

Campus Commons will be a navigation and support hub for students, faculty and alumni, a showcase for UNC’s music and musical theater programs, and a gateway to UNC, according to a statement released by the university. It will include a 600-seat performance venue, 400-seat multiuse auditorium, art gallery and student-run cafe.

The $73.6 million building is being funded through a combination of state capital funds, bonds supported by a student capital fee, and private donor gifts.

Solar Operations and Maintenance for Commercial Properties

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

The Commons will be located south of the University Center near the intersection of 11th Avenue and 22nd Street and will be designed to work in tandem with the center. Construction is scheduled to begin next summer.

“The needs and expectations of college students have changed significantly over the past decade, and the Campus Commons responds to these changes,” Robbyn Wacker, UNC’s provost, said in a prepared statement. “It will position UNC to deliver on its student promise of first-rate academic programs, customized learning opportunities and individual support well into the future.”
