CSU students win ‘Investment Olympics’

FORT COLLINS – A four-student team from CSU’s College of Business placed first in the Colorado CFA Society Global Research Challenge, the “Investment Olympics” for university students, CSU said Friday.

The students will go on to compete in Toronto against teams from across the Western Hemisphere next month.

Student teams from five Colorado business schools, the University of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Colorado-Boulder, UNC and CSU, competed in Denver on Jan. 23.

Empowering communities

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), part of the UnitedHealthcare family, has pledged its commitment to uplift these communities through substantial investments in organizations addressing the distinct needs of our communities.

Their challenge was to offer an investment research recommendation for Ball Corp. that included in-depth business and valuation analysis, report writing and presentation.

Teams worked with the company and industry mentors to prepare their analysis of the firm, its competitors and industry. Students’ final presentations were judged by a panel of researchers, portfolio managers and chief investment officers from investment firms.

The CSU team consists of seniors Ian Heath and Josh Shaughnessy and master’s Financial Risk Management students Miran Hossain and Hoa Nguyen. They will represent the Colorado CFA Society in the Americas Regionals in Toronto in March. Each regional champion then advances to the Global Final, where one winning team is crowned in London in April.

The local CFA Institute Research Challenge is organized by the Advocacy Council of CFA Society Colorado.
