The building would sit atop 3.6 acres currently occupied by a parking lot to the west of Westfall Hall, a dormitory on CSU’s campus, and would span nearly the entire block along Shields between Plum and Laurel streets.
The project would include approximately 20,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor of the building, with the potential for another 20,000 square feet on the second floor. CSU is searching for a “strong anchor tenant” in the first floor space, according to university documents.
In total, the project description calls for five stories, with bicycle parking also included throughout the project.
All developer submissions are due back to the CSU Real Estate Office no later than 2 p.m. on June 14. Plans call for the project to be complete in time for fall semester 2014.
If completed, the project would trump what is currently CSU’s largest parking structure, the Lake Street parking garage, with 835 parking spaces.
CSU officials estimate that enrollment at CSU will increase from 2011′s 27,500 to 35,000 within 10 years, adding to the already tight squeeze on parking at CSU.
