CSU names 14 startups to compete in Collegiate Challenge

FORT COLLINS — Six startups with Colorado State University ties are among the 14 selected to compete in the $25,000 CSU Collegiate Challenge business pitch competition.

The competition, which was open to applicants from colleges and universities in 10 states, is slated or April 27, with the winner earning a spot in a preliminary round of the $250,000 Capital Championship, formerly known as the CSU Blue Ocean Enterprises Challenge.

CSU officials named the 14 finalists Friday.

Finalists for the CSU Collegiate Challenge hail from five states, including Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, Kansas and Arizona. They’ll all converge in Fort Collins later this month for the competition.

CSU startups selected to pitch include:

Bégué Coco: Produces an all-natural virgin coconut oil cosmetic line called Nayi to promote health and environmental preservation in Senegal.

IgnoreU: A spam filter for your digital content, integrating existing social media content into a mobile app that lets users ignore what they don’t want to see.

Insecticycle: Developing a process that uses black soldier fly larva to convert organic waste into a robust protein alternative for animal feed, as well as a soil additive.

Roar Sport: Creator of a performance line of athletic apparel geared toward meeting the needs of plus-size female athletes.

SiVEC Biotechnologies: Developing antiviral products for the rapid prevention of respiratory diseases like avian influenza virus in commercial poultry.

The Food Corridor: An online platform for connecting small food businesses with underutilized commercial kitchens that have available space.

Other teams competing include: Aura Optics, University of Utah; Bugeater Foods, University of Nebraska; Dollow, BYU; Haller, University of Kansas; Info Dental Tech, BYU; Poulet Bleu, Utah Valley University; Sential, Arizona State; Vita Inclinata, University of Colorado Denver.
