CSU enters new class of party school
Colorado State University is not the top party school in the state, according to the latest Playboy magazine ranking, which, to The Eye, calls into question the judging bodies for such lists.
Qualifications that may have been missed during CSU’s review in the ranking process:
- Has a Beverage Business Institute that includes specialization in brewing operations;
- Offers a 400-level course called Brewing Science and Technology;
- Hired Stephen Menke in 2008 as an associate professor of enology, which is the study of wines.

WomenGive, a program of United Way of Larimer County, was started in Larimer County in 2006 as an opportunity for women in our community to come together to help other women.
Menke, based at CSU’s Western Colorado Research Center in Grand Junction, has been teaching enology classes and helping Colorado develop a niche wine market with its unique flavors of grapes grown at high altitudes.
Well, those uniquely flavored grapes have been vinted at Stoney Mesa Winery in Cedaredge, bottled, given the name Ram’s Point, and will soon be available for purchase for $10 to $20.
The hope is that the wines will sell and keep the winemaking program running, and even expanded to allow CSU students and interns to get involved in the process.
