Craig businesses pull New Belgium beer over support for WildEarth Guardians
A pair of liquor stores and at least one restaurant in Craig have removed New Belgium Brewing’s beers from their list of offerings due to the Fort Collins brewery’s support of WildEarth Guardians, which has filed a lawsuit over permits granted for a pair of Moffat County coal mines.
The Steamboat Pilot and Today reports that the businesses pulled New Belgium beer, as well as others listed on WildEarth Guardian’s website as supporters, as a show of solidarity in a town whose success is driven by the coal mining industry.
New Belgium officials responded in a prepared statement to the paper that the company’s contributions to WildEarth Guardians were related to restoration projects along the Colorado River, and that work WildEarth Guardians had done related to coal mines was “outside the scope” of its donations.
