Couple to open Mooyah burger joint in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE — Rick and Ivy Lee will open a Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes fast-casual restaurant Monday, June 20, in Lafayette Crossings, a retail center at the corner of U.S. Highway 287 and South Boulder Road in Lafayette.

The restaurant will occupy about 2,000 square feet at 520 W. South Boulder Road.

The franchise is the Lees’ second. A year ago they bought an existing Mooyah franchise in Orchard Town Center in Westminster. The Lees also own and operate a Massage Green Spa franchise across the street from the Mooyah restaurant in Westminster.

The Lees owned and operated three Pier 49 Pizza restaurants in Draper, Bountiful and West Jordan, Utah from 1992 to 2003. In between the restaurant stints, Rick Ivy was the Denver metro area developer for Liberty Tax Service franchises.

The Mooyah burger chain was founded in 2007 in Plano, Texas. It has about 100 restaurants in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Middle East.

A Mooyah franchise costs $35,000, and a second costs $25,000, according the company’s website.

Mooyah offers made-to-order burgers, french fries hand-cut from Idaho potatoes and real ice cream shakes. Burgers are made from American beef, all-natural Jennie-O turkey burgers and black beans. The buns are baked in house daily and toppings are made from garden-fresh veggies.

Patrons have an option of dining in-house or ordering carry-out online.

In 2015, Mooyah was ranked No. 46 in Fast Casual Magazine’s annual Top 100 Movers & Shakers, a list they have been included in for several years in a row. The brand also ranked second in Best Fast Casual Restaurant Franchise Company, fourth in Best Restaurant Franchise Company, and seventh in Best Overall Franchises Company by Franchiserankings.com.

Lafayette Crossings opened in fall 2014 and includes Chipotle Mexican Grill, Noodles & Co., Einstein Brothers Bagels, Firehouse Subs, Christian Brother’s Automotive, Floyd’s Barbershop, T-Mobile and AT&T. The center is anchored by the 55,000-square-foot Coal Creek Sports Center bowling alley building.
