Construction begins on Longmont Museum addition

LONGMONT – Construction has begun on the 250-seat Stewart Auditorium, a new performance venue at the Longmont Museum & Cultural Center at 400 Quail Road in Longmont.

The new auditorium, scheduled for completion in spring 2015, is designed for a variety of events including musical performances, dance, independent films and lecture series.

The$4.5 million 12,000-square-foot addition will include the auditorium, a multipurpose education space and an atrium/event space. It will be constructed on the east side of the existing museum building.

It is designed by Boulder- and Denver-based OZ Architecture, which designed the original museum. The general contractor for the construction is Bassett & Associates Inc., based in Centennial.

In fall 2012 the Longmont Museum launched a $4.5 million capital campaign that is now 98 percent funded through private, foundation and municipal contributions, in addition to a National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant.
