Columbine plans to add assisted-living units

FORT COLLINS – Columbine Management Services Inc. is proposing to demolish an existing one-story administration building and replace it with a three-story building with 41 assisted-living units at its New Mercer Commons in Fort Collins.

Matt Rankin of r4 Architects Inc. in Fort Collins filed a concept review plan on behalf of Columbine Management Services, doing business as Columbine Health Systems, with the city of Fort Collins last week for the expansion at 947 Worthington Circle.

Columbine Health will move its administration offices to property it owns at 802 West Drake Road, adjacent to Columbine Health’s 26-acre campus in Fort Collins.

New Mercer Commons currently has 79 assisted-living units. The expansion will bring that total to 120 units.

Columbine Health was founded 43 years ago by owner Bob Wilson, who heads the independently operated organization, which also has a 14-acre campus in Loveland plus facilities in Windsor.

Yvonne Myers, health systems director for Columbine Health, said the organization has 21 businesses with 1,450 employees serving approximately 1,150 clients.

Columbine Health Systems owns and operates five nursing homes, three independent-living and three assisted-living facilities. It also provides home-care services and runs a pharmacy, a transportation business with 14 vans, a health club, a geriatric education center and a medical equipment company.
