Colorado unemployment rate dips to 7.9%

Colorado added 8,600 jobs from September to October, bringing the unemployment rate down one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.9 percent.

Of the jobs added, 8,500 of them occurred in the private sector, with the remaining 100 occurring in government.

The national unemployment rate decreased the same amount as the Colorado rate, also to 7.9 percent.

Over the year, the Colorado unemployment rate declined two-tenths of a percentage point from 8.1 percent in October 2011. Nationally, the rate declined from 8.9 percent in October 2011.

In Colorado, the largest over-the-month private sector gains were made in the categories of professional and business services, education and health services, trade, transportation and utilities and manufacturing.
