Colorado ranks third in nation for LEED certification

Colorado has ranked as the third-best state for LEED certifications in 2012 by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The USGBC released its list of top 10 states for LEED certification Wednesday, and only the District of Columbia and Virginia ranked higher than Colorado.

The state had 99 projects achieve LEED certification in 2012, encompassing more than 10 million square feet.

“Securing a spot on this list is a remarkable achievement for everyone involved in the green building movement in Colorado,´ said Rick Fedrizzi, president and CEO of the USGBC.

2013 marks the state’s 10th anniversary of its first LEED-certified building, according to Angie Fyfe, executive director of the USGBC’s Colorado chapter.
