Colorado ranks second for LEED building certification

The state of Colorado is second in the nation when it comes to gaining LEED building certification.

That’s according to the U.S. Green Building Council, which oversees the LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, program that certifies buildings based on their environmental friendliness and promotion of renewable energy.

The USGBC’s rankings are compiled on a per capita basis. Colorado registered 3.14 square feet of LEED building space per person in 2014, coming in right behind Illinois with 3.31 square feet per person.
