Colorado expects to revise up 2014 third-quarter jobs figures

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment on Wednesday announced that 2014 third-quarter job estimates are expected to be revised up for Larimer and Weld counties and down for Boulder County based on Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages results.

Estimates for the state as a whole, meanwhile, are expected to be revised up by 17,400, or 7-tenths of a percentage point.

The CDLE estimates jobs figures each month based on results from surveys of business establishments. The adjusted analysis is based on reports that employers are required to file quarterly with the CDLE as part of the QCEW program. Those reports include counts of workers at each business in Colorado.

Weld County will likely see the largest upward adjustment locally, rising 5 percent from an original September estimate of 94,500 jobs to 99,200. In Larimer, the expected increase is 1.2 percent from 148,000 jobs to 149,800.

In Boulder County, meanwhile, a downward revision of 1.4 percent is expected, from 179,000 to 176,500.

Broomfield County is part of the Denver Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is expected to see a 1 percent upward revision.

The third quarter revisions are expected to go up for several industry sectors statewide, including transportation and utilities (about 9,700), construction (8,700) and financial activities (4,900). Leisure and hospitality is expected to see the largest downward revision at about 6,900 jobs.
