Colorado drilling rig count declines

The Denver-Julesburg Basin, which includes Northern Colorado, lost one rig this week, according to a report from Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI).

The basin ended the week with 50 rigs total. The Permian Basin, which includes territory in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, gained seven for a total of 451, the most of U.S. areas tracked by Baker Hughes.

Colorado’s rig count fell by three rigs to 70. Texas gained 9 rigs, the most of any state, for a total of 821.

The number of U.S. drilling rigs exploring for oil and natural-gas increased by four to 1,742, according to the report.

Rigs on land rose to 1,666, up from 1,659 rigs as of last Friday, according to the report released Friday. Offshore rigs declined by 3 to 59.
