Colorado coal production plunges 40% in 2016

Coal production dropped by almost 40 percent in Colorado during 2016, according to a report by The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction. The data come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, which tallies Colorado’s production at 11.4 million tons in 2016, down from 18.9 million tons in 2015.

Production nationwide fell 17.6 percent, to 739 million tons, according to the federal agency.
