Frank Bruno to replace retiring Ron Secrist at helm of BCH Foundation

BOULDER — Former Boulder city manager Frank Bruno will take the reins from retiring Ron Secrist as president of the Boulder Community Health Foundation at the end of March.

Bruno, currently chief executive of Western Disposal Services Inc. in Boulder, has a long track record leading both private and public institutions. Prior to joining Western Disposal, Bruno was vice chancellor for administration at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Bruno said on Monday he will leave Western Disposal in mid-March, take a spring break with his family and then spend the first two weeks of April with Secrist as the two work on the transition of leadership.

Bruno became Boulder’s city manager in 2003, succeeding Secrist in that job as well. Secrist held that position from 1998 to 2002. Bruno was city manager from 2003 to 2008, after spending 14 years as the assistant city manager of Fort Collins.

“I’m very happy to welcome Frank to the Boulder Community Health family,” said David Gehant, BCH’s president and chief executive, who led the search committee. “Frank has demonstrated an ability to develop and nurture close professional relationships with individuals from all walks of life. He’ll be a great resource for the foundation and Boulder Community Health.”

Bruno has been a chairman and served on the boards of Via Mobility, United Way and Impact on Education. He was a founding member of the Innovation Center of the Rockies.

“I’m excited to join the foundation’s leadership team at such a challenging time in health care,” Bruno said. “Working with people toward common goals and being part of a team really matters to me. The foundation’s mission of marshalling financial support for Boulder Community Health is really integral to providing top quality health care to our community.”

Secrist spent 12 years as president of the BCH Foundation. He led successful capital campaigns for the initial construction of Foothills Hospital, the Tebo Family Medical Building and the recent Foothills expansion.
