Brighton council OKs new code for oil, gas drillers

The Brighton city council adopted a new code for oil and gas development in the city, as well as a way for developers to fast-track the permit process by adhering to a stricter set of standards.

The Denver Post reports that the new code had been in the works for three years as the city’s old code didn’t meet state requirements for hydraulic fracturing sites.

Added measures were included in a memorandum of understanding, with which developers can voluntarily comply with things like increased setbacks of wells from buildings in order for the permit process to be completed in 38 days rather than the usual 120.
