KUDOS

The Fort Collins Senior Center received two awards at the 2012 Colorado Association of Senior Centers Awards. Barbara Schoenberger, recreation supervisor at the Center, was awarded the “Outstanding ‘Seen It All’ Professional” CASC Award. Schoenberger was instrumental in the design of the building of the current Senior Center, as well as the program, staff development and implementation. The Center’s program “Growing Older in Fort Collins – Silver Tsunami as A Golden Opportunity” won a CASC Award for “Outstanding Program.” The program was a collaborative effort of the Senior Center, the Senior Center Building on Basics Expansion Committee, The Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board, the Northern Colorado Community Foundation and Colorado State University Center for Public Deliberation. Silver Tsunami was an effort to create awareness of the coming changes with the growing number of older residents.

Schrader Oil Co., a Fort Collins family-owned business, awarded local volunteer fire departments that fought in the High Park Fire with more than $20,000 in August. The company’s customers raised more than $10,000 as part of a fundraising effort, and Shrader matched those donations. The Schrader family gave checks to Rist, Glacier View, Red Feather, Crystal Lakes, Livermore and Poudre Volunteer fire departments.

Ways to thank a caregiver

The North Colorado Medical Center Breast Center in Greeley has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. The award, given by the American College of Radiology, recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

Dohn Construction hosted its fifth annual Dohn Construction Golf Tournament in August and raised more than $19,000 for Partners Mentoring Youth. The proceeds of this event will support Partners’ programs which create mentoring relationships between adult role models and local youth facing challenges in their social, academic and personal lives. Dohn Construction has raised $100,700 in the past five years through this event for various youth non-profits in the community.

NEW LOCATION

Lake Loveland Dermatology announced it will open a new office in Sterling, Colo. The new office is located at 1450 S. Eighth Street in the Sterling Regional Medical Visiting Specialty Clinic. Dr. Patrick Lillis, the owner of the practice, and David J. Seitz, PA-C, will treat all skin types and skin ailments and are offering patients in the Sterling area dermatology appointments with limited waiting time.

The Larimer Small Business Development Center is offering a 10-week business planning course designed specifically for business owners that have been in operation for at least 18 months. It is geared towards existing entrepreneurs seeking knowledge and practical skills for managing and/or growing their business. Participants graduate with a fully functional strategic business plan. InHomePetEuthanasia.com, an online database of in-home pet euthanasia and hospice providers created by Loveland’s Home to Heaven owner Dr. Kathleen Cooney, has added an interactive map locator to assist families in their search for in-home pet euthanasia experts in their area. The map allows users to choose a provider based on the interactive map, which details provider’s locations as well as counties served. In addition to the directory, the site includes FAQs for pet owners about the process of in-home euthanasia, the preparations that need to be made in advance and recommendations for grief support.

NONPROFIT NOTES

Volunteers of America Northern Colorado Services will host the third annual “Get Involved!” volunteer fair from 9 a.m. -12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the McKee 4H Building at the Ranch in Loveland. This fair is free and open to the public, and will host more than 25 non-profits from Larimer County to speak to the public about programs, services and opportunities to volunteer. PROJECTS

Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association in Fort Collins and Clean Energy Collective in Carbondale, Colo., held a dedication ceremony for the Poudre Valley REA Community Solar Farm in August at the PVREA Headquarters in Fort Collins. The solar farm is the first community solar farm in Northern Colorado and encompasses 494 solar panels generating 116,090 watts of electricity. The panels were purchased and are owned by individual consumers who receive electricity from PVREA.
