Nonprofit notes

The Weld Food Bank will now be able to provide hungry children in Platteville food through their Backpack Program thanks to a $3,000 donation from the Calfrac Well Services Corp. office in Platteville. For $75, the food bank can provide a backpack full of food to a child every weekend during the school year. The Calfrac donation will ensure that 40 children are well fed and ready to learn when they return to school on Monday morning.

KUDOS

At the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program Awards lunch, Signature Offset, a commercial cold-web printer specializing in newsprint products for publishers, was awarded the Gold Partner award, the highest attainable award from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment‘s Sustainability Program. The Gold Award recognizes those businesses that demonstrate a commitment to the environment and continuous improvement, along with environmental stewardship.

At the Great American Beer Festival, the Fort Collins C.B. & Potts Restaurant & Brewery‘s Pavlov Pils won the gold medal in the German-Style Pilsener category. A total of 526 breweries participated in GABF with nearly 4,000 beers submitted in the competition across 75 categories. C.B. & Potts’ victory is also a birthday present as the family-owned and operated company is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. The Fort Collins location was the second restaurant to open in the company, launching in 1974.

Pinnacol Assurance has been named the 2011 Exceptional Volunteer Corporate Group by the Denver Directors of Volunteers in Agencies. Pinnacol was nominated by the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch, which Pinnacol has partnered with for eight years. Pinnacol’s partnership with Volunteers of America includes delivering meals to homebound seniors five days a week for the Meals on Wheels program, delivering fans to seniors each summer, and placing and monitoring food donation barrels for the City Harvest Food Bank food drive.

NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

New Belgium Brewing‘s Belgo IPA, a Belgian twist on India Pale Ale under the Lips of Faith banner, has proven its widespread appeal and graduated into a year-round selection. Lips of Faith beers are New Belgium’s more esoteric creations, delivering palate-elevating brews that are only available for a limited time. Belgo is now available year-round in 22-ounce bombers and six packs.

NEW LOCATION

To meet the ongoing demand for resources and education related to diabetes, the staff of Banner Health Outpatient Diabetes Education have enhanced and expanded the program in Greeley, Windsor and Loveland. The program gives participants the knowledge, skills and tools needed to successfully manage diabetes with a focus on healthy eating, being active, monitoring, taking medication, problem solving, healthy coping, and reducing risks. The program will expand to Johnstown Family Physicians later this year.
