KUDOS

Symbios Technologies LLC, a Fort Collins-based developer of water and energy technologies, has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Science Foundation. This two-year grant was awarded to advance and commercialize Symbios’ Tubular Plasma Reactor for water treatment and improving the economic and environmental impact of domestic oil and gas extraction.

Employees from Anadarko Petroleum Corporation’s Evans office wrapped presents for kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Weld County. In total, more than 400 presents were given to children in need.

Federal District Court Rules Corporate Transparency Act Unconstitutional . . . But Most Small Businesses Must Still Comply

The National Institutes of Health has awarded a Small Business Innovation Research grant to Fort Collins-based Ventria Bioscience and the University of Southern California, with the goal of developing a cost-effective method for producing clinical-grade proinsulin-transferrin using Ventria Bioscience’s ExpressTec recombinant expression system, a treatment for diabetes.

The Excellence in Education Banquet is Monday, March 4 at the Hilton on Prospect near the CSU Campus. This event recognizes 2013 nominees and awards as well as a celebration of all of the educators in the Poudre School District. Dr. Don Unger will also be honored as the Community Education Advocate of 2013.

MISCELLANEOUS

The Loveland City Council approved in November a donation from the City of Loveland to the City of Greeley in the amount of $100,000 to share the cost of wildfire mitigation on approximately 494 acres of identified burned areas in the Stove Prairie, Red Stone Creek and Paradise Park areas within the Buckhorn Creek drainage. The City of Greeley entered into a contract with Western State Reclamation for mitigation work along areas of the Buckhorn Creek affected by the High Park Fire to protect Greeley’s water source from pollution caused by fire-related runoff and to protect the Big Thompson River from ash-filled “black water” flows.

Moroni Books & Gifts has moved from the Foothills Commons north of the Foothills Mall to the Crystal Gardens shopping center between Red Lobster and Young’s Café in Fort Collins.

Otis, Coan & Peters LLC announced that on Feb. 1 the Northern Colorado-based law firm opened an office in Steamboat Springs. The new Steamboat Springs office, located in Suite 200A of the Victoria Building at 941 Lincoln Ave., will be the primary office for OCP attorney Jenna H. Keller.

NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Greeley-based DVM Systems expanded its dairy cow health monitoring product line to include a breeding software module that will for the first time provide early automatic detection of ovulation. DVM Systems’ TempTrack RePRO software predicts ovulation 12 hours in advance to identify cows that are cycling. By continuously monitoring each individual cow’s temperature using a high-tech bolus that is administered orally and stays in the cow’s reticulum for its lifetime, the TempTrack product can alert a producer to key health and breeding events.
