NONPROFIT NOTES
The Daniels Fund donated $24,000 to Aims Community College to provide need-based scholarships for adult learners interested in the college’s Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedics programs. The fund was founded by Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television, in 2000 to provide scholarships to support non-traditional students in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Brown & Brown Insurance donated $5,000 to Respite Care on behalf of all Brown & Brown team members across the country. In an effort to honor Brown & Brown team members and their families on a national level, six different charities were selected throughout the country based on recommendations from approximately 200 offices. Brown & Brown employees in Fort Collins cite Respite Care as a favorite client and non-profit organization in Larimer County. The donation will fund two weeks of the Respite Care Summer Day Camp.

The Downtown Business Association announced that more than $20,800 was collected for the Food Bank for Larimer County during the sixth annual Great Plates of Downtown event. The event provided the public with opportunities to support the food bank by encouraging attendees to “leave their change” after dinner. The donations mean that over 83,200 meals will be provided through the food bank’s services. Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar raised $4,000 during Great Plates, the largest amount, during the two week event.

Ways to thank a caregiver

If you have a caregiver or know someone who has been serving as a primary caregiver, March 3rd is the day to reach out and show them how much they are valued!

More than 360 community members gathered to show their support at the Project Self-Sufficiency Community Breakfast in Fort Collins. Attendees enjoyed a breakfast presentation and collectively donated or pledged over $84,000 to help Project Self-Sufficiency end the cycle of poverty in Larimer County. Project Self-Sufficiency is a non-profit organization that assists low-income, single parents in their efforts to achieve economic independence and become free from community and government assistance while building and maintaining strong, healthy families.

KUDOS
The Poudre River Public Library was the first place-best, best overall winner of the 2012 Lucky Joe’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Fort Collins. Second place, a tie, went to Rocky Mountain “Golden Girls” Baton Academy and The Cheer and Dance Connection. Third place when to the Fort Collins Nursery and the Fort Collins Musician’s Association received honorable mention.

Sunrise Community Health announced that three of its clinics have received Level III recognition as Patient Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health-care quality. Sunrise’s Monfort Family Clinic in Evans, Monfort Children’s Clinic in Greeley and Loveland Community Health Center received the designation. The clinics met key program components, including written standards for patient access, continuity of care, referral and lab result tracking and more in order to qualify.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was selected as one of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies” for 2012 by the Ethisphere Institute. Thrivent Financial was named to the list as a result of its leadership in promoting ethical business standards as well as for introducing innovative ideas to benefit the public.

McWhinney was awarded the LEED for Homes Silver Certification for its Lake Vista Lifestyle Community by the U.S. Green Building Council. The project, a 303-unit luxury apartment community located at Centerra on the eastern shores of Equalizer Lake, was designed and built by McWhinney with the help of OZ Architecture of Boulder and Shaw Construction, based in Denver. The lifestyle community sits on 15 acres and provides residents with quality of life that incorporates elements of sustainable features and community amenities.

NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
Poudre Valley Health System has installed what it bills as a new, innovative medical technology capable of significantly faster, more precise image-guided radiosurgery for cancer patients. TruBeam STx with Novalis Radiosurgery from Varian Medical Sytems and Brainlab was first used to treat two cancer patients last month. The first in Colorado, the TrueBeam STx was installed at PVHS’ Harmony Campus in Fort Collins as part of a $7.1 million expansion of its radiation oncology department.

NEW LOCATION
Sierra Trading Post had its grand opening of its new Fort Collins Technology Campus March 23. The 4,700-square-foot office will accommodate full-time technology-focused employees as well as employees from other divisions. Built in 2004, the energy efficient space offers 30 cubicles, private offices and a conference room.

DEALS
SAFEbuilt, a provider of customized building department programs to public agencies, acquired England Enterprises Inc., a provider of training, plan reviews and building inspections to local and state governments. The acquisition brings together two companies committed to helping jurisdictions and state agencies protect their residents and improve communities by ensuring their built environments are code-compliant and save.

MISCELLANEOUS
The Larimer County Workforce Center is preparing a group of young adults, ages 16-18 years old, to be considered for local summer or long-term employment. This preparation includes professionalism, problem-solving, communication skills, dependability, etc. Businesses may access this group by contacting Youth Services at 970-498 6608 or youthservices@larimer.org.

The Larimer Chorale will launch its new Singing for Seniors program in May. The program is an outreach effort that will provide an avenue for active and older adults to engage in recreational singing. The chorale will form a city-wide choir, open to all in the community who self-identify as seniors and who want to sing for the joy of it.
