Brazilian regulators approve JBS S.A. acquisition of Seara

JBS S.A. (Bovespa: JBSS3) said Thursday that Brazil’s antitrust agency approved the Brazilian meatpacker’s purchase of food processor Seara Brasil.

The agency approved the transaction without restrictions, JBS said in a statement. The Seara operation purchased by JBS consists of 32 production units, including processed foods, poultry and pork plants, and 21 distribution centers. Seara is Brazilian food processing company Marfrig Group’s global food brand.

JBS expects to takeover Seara’s operations Sept. 30.

The acquisition of Seara means an important increase in JBS’ ability to produce poultry, pork and processed foods, JBS said.

JBS subsidiary JBS USA, headquartered in Greeley, operates a beef processing plant in Greeley and holds a controlling interest in Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. (Nasdaq: PPC).

JBS shares fell 3 percent to 7.76 reais Thursday.
