Boulder Turnpike manager refunding $3,600 in errant toll charges
Plenary Roads Denver is refunding roughly $3,600 to drivers who were mistakenly charged tolls for using the new express lane on U.S. Highway 36 between Boulder and Denver.
The Denver Post reports that a glitch in one of Plenary’s transponder readers that wasn’t recognizing when drivers had their transponders switched into high-occupancy-vehicle mode.
Solo drivers must pay tolls to use the express lane, which eventually will extend all the way from Denver to Boulder. But drivers hauling at least one passenger can use the lane for free if they use the switchable transponders that indicate whether a driver is alone or carrying passengers.
