Berthoud added to Main Street cities

BERTHOUD — Berthoud is now a member of the Colorado Preservation Inc.’s Colorado Main Street program, joining Arvada, Brush Canon City, Cortez, Greeley, Montrose and Gunnison in the nationwide group that focuses on downtown revitalization.

Using the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street Approach, municipalities focus on design, economic restructuring, organization and promotion. Since the program was introduced in 1980, more than 1,600 communities have implemented the Main Street approach.

Colorado Main Street communities receive technical assistance during the three-year startup phase, access to training opportunities and help from a nationwide network of downtown revitalization professionals and organizations.

In Colorado, the first six Main Street towns saw more than $4.4 million in private and public money invested in downtown improvements since April 2001.

Interested municipalities can apply for the program through the Colorado Community Revitalization Association. This year’s deadline for applications is Oct. 31.
