Berthoud rejects annexation petition for second time

Town of Berthoud officials have for the second time rejected a petition submitted by Larimer County residents opposed to the Heron Point annexation and development north of town.

The Reporter-Herald reports that Town Clerk Mary Cowdin determined that an addendum to the original petition was ineligible for consideration.

The Berthoud town trustees had approved the annexation in January, helping to pave the way for a mixed-use development that would straddle Larimer County Road 14 on the south side of Taft Avenue. County residents who lived nearby and opposed the development gathered signatures of city residents in hopes of placing the matter of the annexation before a vote.
