The company is leasing 9,800 square feet at 2400 Midpoint Drive. Its lease runs through February 2016.

Solar Operations and Maintenance for Commercial Properties

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

Berken has 10 employees nationwide, but CEO Ken Newman said he believes the company will hire at least 50 additional employees this year. Positions would include scientists, engineers and technicians.

The company’s capital comes from investors, grants and debt financing. It plans to ship its first units in the second quarter.

Berken chose Fort Collins for its proximity to CSU, quality of life and outdoor opportunities, Newman said.

“At the end of the day, it was Fort Collins that worked best for the team,” he said. “We were looking for a city that had the total package.”

The Northern Colorado Economic Development Corp. helped recruit the company to Fort Collins, he added.
