Bentley’s Pet Stuff re-opens 3 former Natural Pet stores; Boulder location up next

Illinois-based Bentley’s Pet Stuff, which earlier this year acquired Greeley pet-store chain Natural Pet Marketplace, will next week host grand reopening celebrations for three rebranded stores in Denver, Fort Collins and Greeley.

A new Boulder Bentley’s store in the heart of the Twenty Ninth Street shopping district, meanwhile, is expected to have a soft opening in the coming weeks.

Bentley’s — venture-backed by entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis — is aiming high in Colorado. Giovanni Senafe, who cofounded the company with his wife, Lisa, in 2008, said Wednesday that Bentley’s plans to have 19 stores open in Colorado by next summer. And the company, which has 30 stores total in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Colorado, is shooting for 100 by March of next year.

“We’re going all in on the Colorado market,” Senafe said. “We’re pretty psyched about it.”

Bentley’s closed the three Natural Pet Marketplace stores in Denver (1685 S. Colorado Blvd.), Fort Collins (2721 Council Tree Ave.) and Greeley (4626 Centerplace Drive) for a few weeks over the summer to remodel and rebrand them. Senafe said all three reopened within the last couple of weeks. Grand opening activities will take place Sept. 10 and 11.

A Gannon’s K9 Salon and Market in Parker that Bentley’s recently acquired is also open but hasn’t yet been remodeled.

The new Boulder store is among five that Senafe expects to open within the next 30 days, including others in Arvada, Littleton, Wheat Ridge and Greenwood Village. A Broomfield store is on the horizon for spring or summer of next year.

The Boulder store will occupy 1,800 square feet on 29th Street next door to Panera Bread. The space was vacated by a Sleep Number bed store in 2014 and has had multiple temporary tenants since.

Senafe said the goal is for a soft opening around the weekend of Sept. 24-25. He said the company will play with its concept a little bit at the Boulder store to cater to the outdoor lifestyle in the city. The store, he said, will be slightly smaller than Bentley’s typical footprint of 2,200 to 2,400 square feet.

“But that location is too good to pass up,” Senafe said.
