Banner to break ground on Fort Collins health-center expansion in January

FORT COLLINS — Banner Health expects to break ground in January on a $5.7 million expansion of its health center in Fort Collins to keep up with growing demand for primary-care and family medicine services.

The Banner Health Center is a 7,800-square-foot outpatient clinic that is adjoined to Banner Fort Collins Medical Center, a two-story hospital with 22 in-patient rooms at the southeast corner of Lady Moon Drive and Harmony Road. Both facilities opened in April 2015.

Banner Health said Tuesday that the 19,000-square-foot, single-story expansion will consist of 15 physician offices. Six of the offices that will take up 7,800 square feet are scheduled to open this summer. Two of the offices will be for family medicine, one for a pediatrician, one for an obstetrician gynecologist and two for rotating doctors. The remaining nine offices are being built-out to their shells and will be completed when needed. Currently, the health center has 16 exam rooms with laboratory and X-ray services available in the hospital.

The health center offers care provided by Banner Medical Group physicians who specialize in pediatrics, internal medicine, cardiology, OB/GYN, general surgery, gastroenterology, urology, neurosurgery and pulmonology.

“The community has really embraced the physicians practicing at the Banner Health Center,” said Gina Valenti, executive director of primary care for Banner Medical Group in Banner’s Western Division. “There is a strong demand for primary care at this facility, and this expansion will provide us the space necessary to meet that need.”

Since the outpatient health center opened in April 2015, patient visits have increased by 51 percent, and demand is high for primary care, according to the health-care system.

As part of a 40-year plan, the hospital was preapproved for up to 144 patient beds, two additional towers, a parking structure and a medical-office building for future expansion on the 28-acre site.
