Balfour adding 65 assisted-living units at Louisville site

LOUISVILLE — Balfour Senior Living plans to build 65 assisted-living apartments, including a small memory-care component, across the street from its Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville.

The 50,000-square-foot project will be built on two acres providing housing for approximately 70 residents.  Balfour’s main campus at 1855 Plaza Drive houses 300 seniors at the facility that opened in 1999. It offers assisted-living and skilled-nursing residences.

“Balfour is committed to building and operating the best senior-living communities in Colorado, and this new development will incorporate all we have learned from our nearly 20 years of developing and operating senior housing,” Michael K. Schonbrun, Balfour’s founder and chief executive, said in a prepared statement.

Boulder-based DTJ Design has been selected as the architect firm for the project, which will feature Balfour’s signature services and amenities that include a fitness center, salon, farm-to-table dining, chauffeured transportation and themed common areas for educational and event programming.
