Baker Hughes lays off 17 more in Brighton

BRIGHTON – Oil-field services firm Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI) has eliminated more jobs at its facility in Brighton.

The Houston-based company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the state of Colorado dated Sept. 30 stating that the company would be laying off 17 people in Brighton, where the company has a range of operations that include cementing, pressure pumping and completions.

The move came just a month after the company had notified the state in August that it was laying off 114 people in Brighton. It is unclear how many employees remain with the company at its operations at 285 Weld County Road 27. Baker Hughes employs about 350 people statewide at several locations throughout Colorado, including Denver and Grand Junction.

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

Baker Hughes officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

The WARN filing noted that workers would be paid for 60 days and that benefits would continue for three months following the layoffs.

Baker Hughes has slashed thousands of jobs worldwide this year as the oil industry deals with a price crash that has hit several companies hard.

Rival Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) struck a deal to acquire Baker Hughes last year. The deal, despite heavy scrutiny from federal regulators, is slated to close by the end of the year.
