Allnutt Funeral Service acquires Howe Mortuary in Longmont

FORT COLLINS — Allnutt Funeral Service owners Susan Hughes and Rick Allnutt announced on Thursday that they’ve acquired Howe Mortuary & Cremation Services in Longmont, combining a pair of century-old businesses.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. But Howe, 439 Coffman St., will continue to operate under the same name, and Geoff Howe, who has owned the family business since 1986, will continue to serve as funeral director. He will also take a seat on Allnutt’s board of directors. Other current Howe employees will also remain.

“The decision to sell a multi-generation family business is significant,” Howe said in a news release. “Choosing Allnutt was the best option to protect our family name and reputation in the Longmont area, which was paramount in our decision.”

Solar Operations and Maintenance for Commercial Properties

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

Allnutt provides funeral, cremation, pre-planning and cemetery services through mortuaries that operate under various names in Fort Collins, Greeley, Estes Park, Grand Junction, Meeker, Craig and western Nebraska. Allnutt was founded in 1886 and stakes claim to being the oldest family-operated business in Northern Colorado.

Howe Mortuary, meanwhile, was started in Boulder in 1889 as Holley and Howe by Albert Edward Howe and Benjamin Holley. Geoff Howe became the fourth generation to represent the business when he joined his father George Jr. in the company in 1977.

Allnutt officials said families that have existing relationships with Howe will continue to have their pre-arrangement plans honored. But the deal also will provide Howe customers with some added options, Howe said.

“Their approach to serving families matches ours,” Rick Allnutt said in the release. “We are growing as a company and seeking quality funeral, cremation and cemetery opportunities that allow us to further our mission of ‘family serving families.’”
