Alfalfa’s Market opening in Louisville June 27

LOUISVILLE – Alfafa’s Market plans to open a store in Louisville at 10 a.m., Friday, June 27.

It will be Boulder-based Alfalfa’s second grocery store that specializes in natural and organic products. Its first store is at Broadway and Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder.

The store in Louisville was built from the ground up and occupies the anchor position in the Center Court Village shopping center at South Boulder Road and Centennial Drive.

“The commuter traffic on South Boulder Road, growth in population in Louisville, void in specialty natural and organic retail in the community, and a thriving Main Street attracted us to this location,´ said Mark Retzloff, co-founder and chairman of Alfalfa’s. “We received more than 600 alfalfa seed-filled letters from Louisville residents asking us to open a store here, and we’ve taken extra care in the store design and layout to bring this community the best in local, natural and organic products retailing.”

Jason Vincent, a veteran of the natural products retail industry, will be the store’s director.

John Varsames, Alfalfa’s vice president of operations, led the construction and development of the new store. Companies involved in the project include design firm Stantec, PEH Architects, JVA, Boulder Engineering, Circle D Companies and developer Loftus Developments LLC.

Alfalfa’s was founded in Boulder in 1983 and grew to 11 stores in the 1980s and ’90s. Alfalfa’s Market was acquired by Wild Oats Markets in 1996. In 2011, Retzloff, Barney Feinblum, Hugo van Seenus and Jimmy Searcy resurrected the Alfalfa’s name with the reopening of Alfalfa’s Market in Boulder.
