Aims Community College to break ground on $24M technology center

GREELEY — Aims Community College will break ground next week on a $23.8 million project to construct the Applied Technology Education Center at its campus in Greeley.

The project includes renovating the school’s welding classroom and creating a purchasing and facilities hub.

The education center will have more than 72,000-square-feet of space. It will include instructional labs and classroom space, giving students and instructors the ability to walk the building and read about different types of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other building systems through cut-away design and open-ceiling environments.

Exploring & expressing grief

Support groups and events, as well as creative therapies and professional counseling, are all ways in which Pathways supports individuals dealing with grief and loss.

The college’s purchasing and facilities hub includes nearly 50,000 square feet of shop, receiving, central storage and administration space to support the college behind the scenes.

Aims is funding the project through its capital projects account. It is scheduled to be completed by fall 2017.

DLR Group, with offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, is the architect. Longmont-based Golden Triangle Construction is the general contractor.

Aims’ Applied and Environmental Technology programs represent four main areas: Engineering Technology — Computer Aided Drafting and Global Information Systems); Construction Management; Industrial Technology; and Oil and Gas Technology.

Aims’ welding program prepares students for careers in the welding field with skills such as fabrication, metallurgy and inspecting welds.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., Monday, June 27, at 5401 W. 20th St.
