Affordable housing open house coming up

Fort Collins is moving forward with plans to encourage more affordable housing.

The city has scheduled an open house next week to review and invite comment on a draft affordable housing strategy plan.

The draft addresses ways to preserve existing affordable housing, with an emphasis on mobile home parks.

If you have a caregiver or know someone who has been serving as a primary caregiver, March 3rd is the day to reach out and show them how much they are valued!

It also addresses potential changes to the city’s and property owners’ responsibilities to residents when redevelopment projects cause the displacement of people from mobile home parks.

City officials are working on development incentives for the private sector to induce more affordable housing, including the creation of a zoning district that gives a “density bonus” for including affordable housing in a project; another is delaying the collection of some of the impact fees until a project is completed.

Feedback from the open house will be shared with City Council when it considers adoption of the plan March 5.
The open house will take place on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in the Community Room at 215 N. Mason St.
