Active Interest Media promotes Andy Clurman to CEO

BOULDER — Andrew Clurman has been promoted to chief executive of Boulder-based Active Interest Media, a publisher of consumer magazines including Yoga Journal, Backpacker, SKI and Skiing.

Clurman retains the title of president, but he will drop his former title of chief operating officer. He replaces Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist III, founder and former CEO, who will serve as executive chairman of the company.

Clurman joined AIM when the company was launched in 2003. AIM comprises five groups and more than 50 print, digital and social media brands. It also has a video production company and organizes events.

AIM has grown revenue and profits 20 percent annually, according to a statement issued by the company.

Its leading consumer magazines and digital properties include Yoga Journal, Backpacker, SKI, Skiing, Vegetarian Times, Yachts International, Sail, Power & Motoryacht, Black Belt, American Cowboy, Practical Horseman, Dressage Today, and Old House Journal.

The company’s five divisions — the Equine Network, Home Group, Healthy Living Group, Marine Group and Outdoor Group — reach more than 40 million people in 85 countries. AIM produces six major boat shows, including those in Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach and Palm Beach.
