3 area firms finalists for biotech awards

DENVER – Three of seven companies named as finalists for 2013 Colorado BioScience Association awards are based in Boulder County.

Clovis Oncology Inc. in Boulder and Medtronic Navigation Inc. in Louisville are finalists for the Company of the Year award.

Clovis Oncology conducts research on cancer drug candidates. Medtronic Navigation Inc. is a medical-device company that’s a division of Medtronic Inc. (Nasdaq: MDT), based in Minneapolis.

Other finalists include AlloSource in Centennial, BaroFold Inc. in Aurora, Surefire Medical Inc. in Westminster and VetDC Inc. in Fort Collins.

Winners will be announced at the group’s annual dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Marriott City Center, 1701 California St., in Denver. The trade group has about 350 bioscience industry members, many of them in the Boulder Valley.

A keynote address at the event will feature two Boulder County speakers – Chris Christoffersen, a general partner at Morgenthaler Ventures/Lightstone Ventures’ office in Boulder, and Larry Gold, founder of SomaLogic Inc. in Boulder. David Perez, also scheduled to speak, is the chief executive of Terumo BCT in Denver.
