Boulder startup to participate in $5M pitch competition

BOULDER — Kickfurther, a Boulder-based inventory crowdfunding platform, was selected as one of 18 finalists in the 43North startup competition.

The $5 million competition is designed to encourage entrepreneurs to compete for enterprise funding in Western New York. The event is hosted by Empire State Development, the economic-development organization for the state of New York.

The finalists, selected from all across North America, will participate in two rounds of live pitching in Buffalo for a chance to win one of eight cash prizes, including a $1 million grand prize and seven $500,000 cash prizes.

Kickfurther will be one of 18 startups competing on Oct. 3.

In addition to cash, winners of the competition will receive free space at the 43North incubator on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, guidance from experienced mentors and access to other business incentive programs.

“In just five years of the 43North competition, Buffalo has become a beacon for global entrepreneurs with cutting-edge ideas and innovative businesses, bringing their talent and energy to the region and building Western New York’s reputation as an entrepreneurial hub,” Howard Zemsky, president and CEO of Empire State Development, said in a prepared statement.

Kickfurther markets itself as the next-step for entrepreneurs after they have participated in a Kickstarter or other crowdfunding campaign. The company helps startups tap into accredited and unaccredited investors to finance inventory and then payback a predetermined return once the inventory is sold.
