Aspen Skiing/KSL acquires Steamboat ski resort
A $1.5 billion deal has sent control of the Steamboat and Winter Park ski areas to Aspen Skiing Co. and KSL Partners, based in Denver.
The Denver Post reports that the acquisition of Intrawest Resorts gives the investment group control of Tremblant in Quebec, Blue Mountain in Ontario, Snowshoe in West Virginia and Stratton in Vermont. The deal also includes Canadian Mountain Holidays, a heliskiing operation.
The deal pits the Aspen Skiing/KSL group against Broomfield-based Vail Resorts Inc., which in the past year has purchased three-fourths of the Whistler Blackcomb ski area in Canada and the Stowe ski area in Vermont.
